Twelve-Kilogram LPG Cylinder Price Soars by 252 Taka

Consumers across Bangladesh face increased household expenses as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices experience a sharp upward revision. According to the latest pricing adjustments announced by the regulatory authorities, the standard 12-kilogram LPG cylinder will now cost 1,837 Taka, marking a steep increase of 252 Taka from the previous month.

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) officially announced the new rate during a press conference on Sunday afternoon, 4 October. BERC confirmed that the revised tariff structure takes immediate effect across the country, affecting both residential users and commercial establishments reliant on cylinder gas.

This latest price hike follows two consecutive months of minor adjustments. In September, the regulatory body lowered the price of a 12-kilogram cylinder by 13 Taka, fixing it at 1,585 Taka. That slight relief came after August’s tariff had been set at 1,598 Taka. The dramatic shift observed this October reflects broader volatility in global energy markets and fluctuating import costs, which heavily influence local pricing structures.

Because Bangladesh relies predominantly on imported raw materials to meet its domestic LPG demands, monthly price recalibrations by BERC remain directly tied to international benchmarks, particularly the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP). Fluctuations in foreign exchange rates and shipping costs also play a substantial role in determining retail market prices.

The substantial increase in essential cooking gas prices is expected to put additional pressure on household budgets, coming at a time when consumers are already navigating broader inflationary pressures on everyday goods. Distributors and retail sellers have been instructed to comply strictly with the newly established ceiling to prevent opportunistic overcharging in local markets.
