The central executive committee of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) has expressed grave concern over the health condition of its president, Hasanul Haq Inu, following the revocation of his Division-1 prisoner status and the alleged denial of necessary medical treatment. In an official press statement released on Saturday, 10 October 2026, signed by the party’s office secretary Sajjad Hossain, Jasad appealed to authorities to restore the veteran politician’s prisoner privileges and immediately transfer him to a specialized hospital for treatment.
Inu, an 80-year-old freedom fighter and former minister, has been held in custody since his arrest on 26 August 2024. He has completed over two years and two months in detention, facing scores of legal cases. According to the party statement, the physical strain of frequent transfers in prison vans between Kashimpur Central Jail and courts in Dhaka—including a recent appearance before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on 7 October—has severely aggravated his frail condition. Upon returning to jail that evening, he suffered sharp chest pains alongside dangerously unstable blood pressure.
Jasad highlighted critical medical concerns regarding a cardiac device fitted in Inu’s chest. Following a severe heart attack in Sylhet in 1988 that left lasting cardiovascular damage, specialists in Singapore implanted an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) in 2017. The device operates via a portable monitor connected directly to a central server in Singapore, allowing his attending cardiologists to track his heart activity continuously. The party alleged that prison authorities disconnected this essential portable monitor shortly after his arrest in August 2024, leaving foreign medical experts unable to monitor his heart condition or advise on treatment.
In addition to health concerns, the political party raised strong objections to changes in his detention conditions. Following his initial arrest, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court granted Inu Division-1 classification in light of his age, academic background, contribution to the 1971 Liberation War, former cabinet role, and status as a regular taxpayer. The Dhaka Deputy Commissioner subsequently implemented the order. However, on 6 October 2026, Kashimpur High Security Central Jail-2 authorities revoked his division status on instructions from higher officials, transferring him to a general cell shared with eight other inmates.
Citing Rules 617 and 910 of the Bangladesh Jail Code, Jasad urged the government to review an application resubmitted by Inu’s wife on 24 September. The party demanded the immediate restoration of his Division-1 status and the provision of adequate medical care in an equipped facility to prevent further deterioration of his health.
