The Chittagong North District branch of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal has formally expelled Md Rashed, the convenor of its Haitkandi Union unit in Mirsarai Upazila, following his arrest in possession of 1,000 Yaba tablets. The organizational action strips him of his primary membership and all associated responsibilities within the youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Chittagong North District Juba Dal General Secretary SM Murad Chowdhury confirmed the expulsion on Friday, following an official press release issued on Thursday afternoon under the signature of the district unit’s Office Secretary, Abu Sayeed. According to the organizational statement, the punitive action was jointly approved and enforced by Chittagong North District Juba Dal President Hasan Muhammad Jasim and General Secretary SM Murad Chowdhury in response to Rashed’s involvement in anti-disciplinary and unethical activities.
The press release explicitly stated that the organization bears no responsibility for Rashed’s personal misconduct or unlawful actions. Furthermore, district leaders instructed party activists and leaders at all hierarchical levels to immediately sever all organizational ties with the expelled member.
Although the formal release cited generic “unethical activities” without elaborating on the specific nature of the offences, police reports clarify the grounds for his detention. Law enforcement personnel apprehended Rashed in the Pahartali area of Chittagong city on 20 September after finding 1,000 pieces of the contraband methamphetamine drug, locally known as Yaba, in his possession. Following his arrest, officers at Pahartali Police Station lodged a formal case against him under the Narcotics Control Act, and he remains in judicial custody.
Addressing the disciplinary decision, SM Murad Chowdhury reiterated that the organization maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal conduct and moral turpitude among its ranks. He emphasised that holding a party portfolio does not grant immunity from accountability, noting that the expulsion serves to uphold organizational integrity and reinforce disciplinary standards across the district’s youth wing.
