Armed Robbers Target Retired Police Officer in Violent Home Invasion

A retired Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) was assaulted and robbed at his residence in Chittagong’s Mirsarai upazila during the early hours of Saturday. The armed gang broke into the home of Md Matin Ullah in Middle Wahedpur village under Wahedpur Union at approximately 1:00 am, subjecting the former law enforcement officer and his family to physical violence, verbal abuse, and plunder.
Matin Ullah, who retired from the police service on 25 December last year, was asleep alongside his wife and daughter when the intruders forcibly smashed through the front door. Between eight and ten masked men wearing shorts and armed with firearms and sharp knives surged into the building. Before the family could react, the gang launched a physical assault on Matin Ullah, punching him while hurling obscene language.
The retired officer pleaded with the assailants to cease the degradation in front of his family, asking them to bind his hands instead of humiliating him. One gang member aggressively demanded the location of his retirement pension payout, addressing him insultingly. The robbers subsequently bound Matin Ullah’s hands, feet, and mouth before locking him inside a separate room while they systematically ransacked the residence.
The gang broke open wardrobes and furniture across multiple rooms, looting 40,000 Taka in cash, five bhori of gold jewellery, three mobile phones, an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) unit, and the monitor connected to the home’s Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) security system. Approximately ten minutes after the robbers fled the scene, Matin Ullah managed to free himself and sought assistance from a neighbour, using their telephone to alert local authorities.
Police officers arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the distress call overnight. Farida Yasmin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirsarai Police Station, confirmed that operational teams inspected the crime scene during the night, followed by a formal visit by senior police officials on Saturday afternoon. Investigators are currently conducting inquiries to identify the perpetrators, while the victim prepares to file a formal case with the police station.
