A high-profile performance by country music star Ella Langley in Oklahoma was abruptly cancelled shortly before showtime following a security threat, though local law enforcement subsequently confirmed the venue was safe. The 27-year-old artist had been slated to perform on Friday night at the 19,000-seat Bank of Oklahoma Center (BOK Center) in Tulsa. However, approximately two hours prior to the scheduled start time, the singer and venue management notified fans via social media that the concert would not go ahead.
In an official statement published on Facebook, Langley explained that the incredibly difficult decision to cancel was taken under the advisement of local authorities, venue management, and her personal security detail. She stressed that while she recognised the significant time, travel, and financial investment made by attending fans, her primary obligation remained the physical safety of her audience, touring crew, and arena staff. BOK Center officials echoed her sentiments in a concurrent statement, confirming that after careful deliberation, management determined the event could not proceed safely.
Clarifying the official police stance, Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg posted a video statement outlining the sequence of events. Captain Meulenberg stated that his department had not advised organisers to call off the concert. Police officers had initially cleared the arena to proceed after carrying out a routine precautionary sweep using specialist bomb-detection dogs. Following that initial clearance, an anonymous caller phoned in a threat alleging that an individual intended to inflict widespread harm at the venue using firearms and explosives.
Officers immediately executed a secondary security sweep across the facility. Following the second search, police informed the artist’s management that no evidence of a credible danger had been identified and declared the premises secure. Despite these assurances from law enforcement, the performer’s security team chose to exercise maximum caution and pull the plug on the evening’s performance.
Langley has rapidly risen to prominence within the country music industry. Her hit single “Choosin’ Texas” recently achieved historic commercial success, spending 23 consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and surpassing Mariah Carey’s long-standing record of 22 weeks.
