The opening day of the second round of the National Cricket League (NCL) delivered an action-packed exhibition of domestic cricket across four venues in Bangladesh. Highlighting the day’s play, Rangpur Division opener Mim Mosaddek struck a majestic 157, while Dhaka Division’s left-handed opener Naim Sheikh hit an unbeaten 131. Meanwhile, Khulna Division spinner Mahedi Hasan ripped through Rajshahi Division’s batting order with a devastating six-wicket haul, collapsing their first innings for a paltry 119.
At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, off-spinner Mahedi Hasan proved unplayable, taking 6 for 38 in 14 overs to skittle Rajshahi Division out inside two sessions. He received firm support from Safar Ali, who picked up 3 wickets. Only Rajshahi opener Sabbir Hossain offered meaningful resistance with a top score of 36. In reply, Khulna reached 108 for 1 by stumps, trailing by just 11 runs, with Azizul Hakim unbeaten on 55 and Kalam Siddique Olin on 28.
Over at the Sylhet Academy Ground, Rangpur Division dominated Mymensingh Division after opting to bat first. Despite losing Anik Sarkar early, Mim Mosaddek and Iqbal Hossain stitched together a magnificent 208-run partnership for the second wicket. Mim’s marathon 157 off 212 balls included 23 boundaries before he eventually fell to Azizul Hakim Roni late in the day. Supported by Iqbal’s 78, Abdullah Al Mamun’s fluent 61 off 88 balls, and Akbar Ali’s 30, Rangpur surged to a commanding 370 for 6 at the close of play.
Across at the main Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Dhaka Division mounted a formidable 343 for 2 against host Sylhet Division. Left-handed opener Naim Sheikh bounced back from a duck in the previous round to anchor the innings with an unbeaten 131 before retiring hurt. Naim shared a 155-run opening stand with Jisan Alam, who missed out on a century after falling for 81. Veteran batter Marshall Ayub continued the momentum, stroking 80 off 111 balls before leaving Mahidul Islam Ankon unbeaten on 32 at stumps.
At the Academy Ground in Cox’s Bazar, Barisal Division posted 282 all out against Chittagong Division. Moin Khan fell agonizingly short of a hundred, dismissed for 97, while Jawad Abrar contributed 63, Hafizur Rahman scored 44, and Abdullah Sifat added 35. Left-arm spinner Hasan Murad was the pick of Chittagong’s bowlers with 4 wickets. In response, Chittagong’s openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy (29 not out) and Sadikur Rahman (41 not out) safely navigated the final session, guiding their side to 72 without loss at stumps.
