The district administration of Rangamati has announced an immediate and indefinite suspension of all tourism operations in Sajek Valley, one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated hill destinations situated within Baghaichhari upazila. The decision was formalized through an official public directive issued late on Sunday evening, restricting all domestic and international holidaymakers from traveling to the picturesque region until further notice.
According to the official notification signed and released by Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Najma Ashrafi, the closure enforced a complete halt on visitor entry starting from 6:00 pm on Sunday, 11 October. Local administration officials stressed that the restrictive measures were deemed vital following a comprehensive review of the prevailing security dynamics across the region, prioritizing the personal safety and physical well-being of visiting tourists above all else.
Nestled along the remote northern borders of Rangamati district, Sajek Valley is renowned for its lush green mountain ranges, serene landscapes, and vibrant indigenous culture. Reaching the elevated plateau requires navigating winding, high-altitude terrain stretching from Dighinala in Khagrachhari to Baghaichhari in Rangamati. Due to the unique geographic and security sensitivity of the border area, civilian tourist convoys traditionally travel under structured military and law enforcement escorts at scheduled times during the day.
The sudden suspension of travel access has significantly impacted local hospitality businesses and regional travel operators. Transport associations, hotel managers, and cottage owners operating within the valley have been directed to pause all fresh bookings and cancel outbound passenger trips toward Baghaichhari upazila. District authorities have strongly advised independent travellers and commercial tour agencies across the country to adjust their itineraries immediately and refrain from organizing journeys toward Sajek until formal clearances are restored.
Senior administrative officers and security agencies in Baghaichhari upazila confirm that they are continuously monitoring the ground situation in coordination with law enforcement authorities. Regional administrators assured the public that as soon as peace and security conditions stabilize completely, the restriction will be lifted, allowing normal tourism activities to resume smoothly. In the meantime, local checkposts have been alerted to enforce the travel ban strictly at entry routes leading toward the valley.
