Stolen Laptop Belonging to German Tourist Recovered in Natore

Police in Natore have successfully retrieved a stolen laptop belonging to German tourist Kiril Lander Kiril, following an extraordinary theft at Natore Railway Station that gained widespread national attention. The missing computer was recovered near Noor Cloth Store in the Kapuria Patti area of Natore town, bringing relief to law enforcement officers and the visitor alike.
Natore Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shariful Haq confirmed the recovery during a press briefing at the Sadar Police Station at approximately 9:00 pm on Sunday, 11 October.
The foreign visitor had arrived in Bangladesh to tour historical and cultural landmarks across the country. Traveling from Bogura on a local service to Santahar Junction, he subsequently boarded the Banglabandha Express, inadvertently alighting at Natore Railway Station. Kiril intended to transit through Natore to reach the Darshana border crossing into India. Whilst waiting inside the station’s passenger lounge, an unidentified man wearing a yellow vest approached him, falsely presenting himself as a railway employee.
The impersonator struck up a conversation and offered to assist Kiril with purchasing a travel ticket. Trusting the individual, the tourist left his belongings—including his laptop and camera gear—with the man while he proceeded to the ticket counter. Upon returning, he discovered that both the fake employee and his valuables had vanished. Kiril promptly lodged an official complaint at Natore Sadar Police Station that evening, where officers and local journalists assisted him. For his comfort and security, authorities arranged his transport to Rajshahi before relocating him to Dhaka, where he is currently staying.
The investigation took a unexpected turn when Amol Kumar Saha, a resident of Kapuria Patti, found an unattended bag beneath a seat whilst traveling aboard the Titumir Express to Naogaon via Santahar on the morning of 8 October. Amol took the bag to Naogaon and discovered the laptop upon opening it. After news media widely reported the theft involving the German visitor, Amol discussed the discovery with his son, Antor. On Sunday evening, Antor contacted local police, prompting officers to retrieve the device from outside the Kapuria Patti store.
Upon receiving news of the recovery, Kiril expressed his sincere gratitude to the Bangladesh Police for their swift assistance. However, authorities noted that no immediate explanation was provided as to why Amol Saha waited four days after finding the device before handing it over to law enforcement.
Meanwhile, efforts to apprehend the impostor remain underway. Security forces from the Special Response Battalion (SRB-5, CPC-2) analysed closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to identify the suspect’s face. On Saturday night, 10 October, authorities posted wanted posters featuring the suspect’s photograph across high-footfall locations, including Natore and Abdulpur railway stations, offering a financial reward for information leading to his arrest. Police operations to capture the culprit are ongoing.
