Bangladesh Eliminated After 3-0 Defeat to Philippines

Bangladesh suffered a heartbreaking exit from the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers after falling to a 3-0 defeat against a clinical Philippines side. The decisive loss at the group stage ended the red-and-green squad’s campaign, allowing the Philippines to secure top spot in the group with back-to-back victories and six points, booking their place in the final tournament scheduled to take place in China in 2027.
The match began with intense pressure from the Philippines, who tested the Bangladeshi defense early. Goalkeeper Meghla Rani Roy kept Bangladesh afloat in the 23rd minute, executing a crucial save at her near post to deny a powerful strike. Just five minutes later, Arina Sofia came close to opening the scoring for the Philippines, but her curling effort dragged narrowly wide of the far post.
Following a mid-half hydration break, Bangladesh found their footing and began asserting greater control over possession. Their patient buildup nearly yielded results in the 43rd minute when Moushumi connected with a precise cross, though her header drifted inches past the upright. The Bangladeshi side suffered their most frustrating moment during first-half injury time when Alpi Akter struck a brilliant left-footed shot from outside the penalty area, only to see her effort thunder off the crossbar.
Despite holding firm for much of the second half, Bangladesh’s defensive resilience finally crumbled in the 73rd minute. A cross whipped in from the left flank was inadequately cleared by a Bangladeshi defender, allowing Maya Rose Baskaral to pounce on the loose ball and break the deadlock.
The Philippines consolidated their dominance in the closing stages thanks to a late brace from Noelle Granger. In the 90th minute, Granger found space on the right side of the box and unleashed a precise angled shot into the net. She struck again during stoppage time, penetrating the defense once more to complete a commanding 3-0 victory. The win guarantees the Philippines a berth at the 2027 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup in China, while Bangladesh returns home to regroup after a valiant effort.
