According to the international news agency AFP, the socks were auctioned on Wednesday, 30 July, in France.

Recently, the owner decided to auction the socks. Auctioneer Aurore Illy explained that, due to some yellowing of the fabric, the item was put up for sale before it could deteriorate further.
