A case has been filed against a teacher at Gumanatali Fazil (Degree) Madrasa in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, over allegations that he raped a 12-year-old Class Six student. The girl is reportedly around seven months pregnant, according to her family. Two other students at the madrasa have also been accused of recording videos of the girl and blackmailing her.
The case was filed at Shyamnagar Police Station at around noon on Monday. The accused teacher, Nur Alam, is the son of Shamsur Sardar and a resident of Gumanatali village in Shyamnagar upazila.
According to the girl’s family, the alleged incident took place around seven months ago while she was receiving private tuition from the teacher. They alleged that Nur Alam mixed sleeping medication with juice, causing the girl to lose consciousness, and then raped her. The family further claimed that a video was recorded and used to intimidate the child.
The girl is originally from Sharsha upazila in Jashore district. According to information provided by her family, she had been living at her maternal grandparents’ home to continue her education while her mother was working in Saudi Arabia. During that period, she attended private tuition sessions with the accused teacher.
The allegations also extend to two students from Classes Eight and Ten at the madrasa. The family claimed that the two students recorded videos of the girl and used them to blackmail her. However, further details about the alleged involvement of the two students were not immediately available.
Attempts to obtain a response from Nur Alam were unsuccessful. When his mobile phone was contacted, his wife answered and said she had no knowledge of the matter. It was not possible to contact the two other students named in the allegations for their comments.
Shafiul Islam Patwary, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station, confirmed that a case had been filed. He said the madrasa teacher and the two students had been named as accused in the rape case.
The allegations have raised serious concerns about child protection, sexual violence and the safety of students in educational settings. Given the girl’s age and reported pregnancy, access to appropriate medical care, psychological support and protection from intimidation will be crucial.
The allegations are yet to be established through the legal process. The filing of a case does not, by itself, establish the guilt of those accused. Further investigation is expected to clarify the circumstances of the incident and determine the responsibility of the individuals named in the complaint.
