Anvay Dravid, the 17-year-old son of former Indian cricket captain and head coach Rahul Dravid, produced a blistering display of power-hitting in the domestic Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy. Representing Karnataka Under-19s against Delhi, the young wicketkeeper-batter struck a explosive 85 runs off just 41 deliveries on Monday, highlighting his rising status in Indian youth cricket.
Batting with remarkable fluency, Anvay dismantled Delhi’s bowling attack with an innings comprising seven boundaries and five soaring sixes. His explosive knock came at a strike rate of 207.32, accelerating Karnataka’s scoring rate in the middle overs and propelling his side to a formidable total of 418 for 4 in their allotted 49 overs.
This decisive performance follows another standout display just two days earlier, when Anvay smashed 104 off 62 balls against Chandigarh. Back-to-back match-defining knocks have demonstrated his ability to adapt his tempo, combining the defensive discipline associated with his father’s legacy with modern, aggressive strokeplay required in white-ball formats.
Beyond his contributions with the bat, Anvay carries significant responsibilities as captain of the Karnataka Under-19 squad while also maintaining his duties behind the stumps as the primary wicketkeeper. Navigating three demanding roles has not hindered his batting form; instead, leadership appears to have sharpened his tactical awareness on the field.
His recent domestic success builds upon promising international outings earlier in the summer. During India Under-19s’ youth One-Day International series against Sri Lanka in July, Anvay made a notable impression by scoring 87 off 67 balls in the second match, an innings featured nine fours and a six. As the Vinoo Mankad Trophy progresses, his consistency across both domestic and international youth fixtures positions him as one of the country’s most compelling young cricket talents.
