Police officers in Goalanda Upazila, Rajbari, seized a substantial quantity of illicit liquor during a targeted two-hour raid on the Daulatdia brothel complex on Monday, 12 October. The operation, which ran from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, resulted in the recovery of 60 bottles of commercially produced local spirits alongside five litres of home-brewed liquor. Law enforcement officers arrested one woman at the scene in connection with the illegal trade.
The arrested suspect was identified as 55-year-old Nargis Akter, a brothel landlord and widow of the late Rob Miah, residing in the North Daulatdia area. A second suspect, 60-year-old landlord Lal Miah, managed to evade capture during the police operation and remains at large along with several associates.
Acting on a precise tip-off regarding illicit alcohol distribution within the brothel district, a team from Goalanda Ghat Police Station launched simultaneous searches on properties managed by Nargis and Lal Miah. Officers uncovered 60 bottles of liquor manufactured by Carew & Co (Bangladesh) Ltd inside Nargis’s residence before apprehending her. A subsequent search of Lal Miah’s premises yielded five litres of illegally distilled moonshine.
Goalanda Ghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Sofiqul Islam, confirmed the details of the raid and stated that preliminary investigations indicate the seized contraband was intended for unauthorized commercial sale within the precinct. He added that Nargis was taken into custody while law enforcement personnel continue operations to locate and arrest Lal Miah and his accomplices.
Formal legal proceedings under the Narcotics Control Act are currently being prepared at Goalanda Ghat Police Station. Local police officials emphasized that routine anti-narcotics operations and surveillance across the Daulatdia brothel area will be maintained to curb the distribution of illicit substances and enforce public order.
