Police reports indicate that Saheb Ali, the son of the late Gias Uddin of Ati WAPDA Colony, was standing alongside the canal bank near Milon’s jute depot, in front of the 10-storey Al Fatah Building. An unidentified associate approached him and opened fire at close range. The initial gunshot struck Saheb Ali, causing him to collapse into an adjacent roadside drain.

The assailant then fired a second shot at him while he lay in the drain before pelting him with bricks and fleeing the scene. The sudden gunfire generated widespread panic among residents and shopkeepers in the Boubazar neighbourhood.

Family members and local residents rushed to the scene immediately following the gunman’s escape. They retrieved the critically injured victim from the drain and transported him to the Emergency Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Attending doctors declared him dead at approximately 8:00 pm due to severe gunshot trauma and blood loss.

Law enforcement authorities confirmed that Saheb Ali maintained a extensive criminal record. According to Siddhirganj Police Station records, he faced roughly 15 active charges involving murder, narcotics trafficking, armed robbery, preparation to commit dacoity, offences disturbing public order, and violations under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations), Tareq Al Mehedi, stated that senior officers and forensic units visited the crime scene to collect evidence. Police detectives are examining potential motives, including internal disputes over drug trade territory or personal rivalries, while operational units work to identify and apprehend the assailant. Saheb Ali’s body remains at the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
