The suspect, Polash Hossain, hails from Gabla village in Shailkupa Upazila and works as a staff member at a private eye hospital located in Jhenaidah town. Officer-in-Charge of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, Asaduzzaman, confirmed the arrest and subsequent court proceedings.

According to police sources citing the victim’s formal complaint, the complainant—a primary school teacher residing in Defalbari village—had married Polash with the consent of both families. The couple lived together for six years before legally dissolving their marriage on 19 February 2026. The former couple share a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, who remained in her mother’s care following the divorce.

Since the separation, the teacher had been living with her young daughter in a rented flat near the Paglakanai Beka Bridge area. The victim stated in her complaint that on the evening of 11 October, at approximately 8:00 pm, Polash gained access to the apartment through deception. He then allegedly forced his way into the bedroom and sexually assaulted her.

Her distress cries alerted neighbours living in adjacent flats, who rushed to her assistance, causing Polash to flee the premises before he could be apprehended at the scene.

Following the assault, the victim lodged a formal police complaint at Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station on 12 October. Law enforcement officers launched a prompt operation to locate the suspect, arresting him shortly afterwards. He was presented before the Jhenaidah Magistrate’s Court, where the presiding judge ordered his transfer to jail pending trial. Police confirmed that medical examinations for the victim have been arranged as part of the ongoing investigation into the allegations.
