Father Kills His Drug-Addicted Son After Tying His Hands and Feet

A man has been accused of killing his 28-year-old son in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi after allegedly tying him up and attacking him with a sharp weapon following a dispute over money for drugs. The victim, Tarek Rahman, reportedly died from excessive blood loss. His father, Oliur Rahman, has been on the run since the incident.

The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, 15 October, in Baherchar Madhyapara village under Chanderkandi Union. Tarek was the son of Oliur Rahman, a resident of the village.

According to local sources, Tarek had previously lived in Malaysia but was sent back to Bangladesh because of his drug use. After returning home, he allegedly became involved in drug use again.

Locals said Tarek frequently quarrelled with his parents and assaulted them while demanding money to buy drugs. His alleged behaviour reportedly caused repeated tensions within the family.

On Wednesday night, 14 October, Tarek allegedly demanded money for drugs and vandalised parts of the family home. The dispute reportedly escalated, prompting his father to take action against him.

According to the allegations, Oliur Rahman tied his son’s hands and feet before taking him to a cowshed behind their house. He allegedly assaulted Tarek there and struck him with a sharp weapon, causing injuries to his head, neck and other parts of his body.

Tarek reportedly died from excessive blood loss following the injuries.

After the incident, Oliur Rahman fled and remains unaccounted for, according to the available information. Details about his whereabouts were not immediately available. There was also no confirmed information about whether other family members were involved in the incident.

Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mojibur Rahman said the incident was initially believed to have been linked to drug use and a dispute over money. He added that injuries had been found on the back of Tarek’s head and below his right ear.

The officer said legal proceedings were under way in connection with the case. Further investigation is expected to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Tarek’s death and determine the responsibility of those involved.

Although local accounts suggest that the incident followed repeated family disputes over money for drugs, the precise sequence of events remains to be established through investigation. The allegations against Oliur Rahman have not yet been conclusively proven through the legal process.
