Local cricket in Bangladesh’s port city is set for a major boost as the Chittagong Franchise Cricket T20 League (CFL) 2026 prepares to launch on Thursday, 22 October. Designed to nurture regional talent and provide structured commercial opportunities for emerging players, the tournament officially kicked off its off-field proceedings with a gala night and players’ draft on Monday evening, 19 October, at the Siko Arena near Bahaddarhat.
Organised by Sportify Events, the ceremony featured the unveiling of the promotional campaign alongside the official championship trophy. High-profile figures from the regional cricket board attended the gathering, including Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir and BCB Councillor Shahidur Rahman, alongside the franchise owners of all six competing teams.
Six franchises will vie for the inaugural title: Brothers Union, Bengal Stars Cricket Club, NST Sports, Raiyan Sports, Ambiya Sports, and Bakalia Ogroshor Boys Club. The title sponsorship rights for the tournament have been secured by Four H Group, whilst NHT Sports Chairman Syed Mohammad Tansir confirmed that every match will be broadcast live to ensure widespread visibility for local athletes.
The player selection process was conducted using a dedicated software platform managed by Draft Commissioner Robiul Hoque Chowdhury. Spanning 13 rounds, the draft granted each franchise 90 seconds per pick to assemble a balanced 15-member squad. Under the league guidelines, every roster comprises two direct signings, nine Premier League players, three First Division representatives, and one promising young talent. Compensation tiers have been structured systematically across these categories, set at 40,000 Taka, 25,000 Taka, 15,000 Taka, and 10,000 Taka respectively. Players were drafted exclusively from pool lists based on performances in the Premier League, First Division, and Second Division across the last two domestic seasons.
Beyond the competitive element, organisers view the league as a vital instrument for financial stability and skill development among local cricketers who often lack year-round match exposure.
Action on the field commences at the Birsreshtho Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Sagarika. The competition will feature a double-header schedule, with two matches played daily as the teams battle for domestic honors.
