Two young men were killed and a driver sustained critical injuries on Thursday morning after a passenger bus collided with a battery-operated three-wheeler, locally known as an easy-bike, on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj. The fatal crash occurred near the Borongail bus stand area under Shibalaya Upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Yasin, 22, son of Md Sahan, and Bablu, 28, son of Mozahar. Both victims hailed from Mouhali village under Ghior Upazila in Manikganj district. The identity of the severely injured three-wheeler driver could not be verified immediately following the incident.
Witnesses and local police reported that the collision took place when a passenger bus operated by Selfie Paribahan, heading towards Dhaka from Paturia, struck the battery-powered vehicle as it approached the Borongail market area carrying passengers from Mouhali village. The sheer force of the impact left the easy-bike heavily damaged. Yasin died instantly at the scene. Bablu was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where attending medical personnel declared him dead shortly after arrival.
The driver of the easy-bike suffered extensive injuries during the crash. Local residents and emergency responders managed to rescue him from the wreckage, after which he was transferred to a hospital in Dhaka for urgent specialized treatment.
Highway police officers dispatched to the location secured the area and managed traffic flow on the busy Dhaka-Aricha corridor, which frequently sees heavy commercial and inter-district transport. Harun Or Rashid, Officer-in-Charge of the Borongail Highway Police Station, confirmed that law enforcement seized the Selfie Paribahan bus involved in the incident. However, both the bus driver and his assistant managed to flee the scene immediately after the collision. Police have launched a search to trace the absconding transport workers, and formal legal proceedings regarding the deadly crash remain underway.
