A madrasa director in Jhikargachha Upazila, Jhenaidah, faces grave allegations of sexually assaulting two Year 3 female students residing at his residential religious institute.
The accused, Maulana Abdur Rahman, serves as a teacher at the local Sreerampur Alim Madrasa while simultaneously running the Rowzatul Jannat Balika Hafezia Madrasa. Rahman established the institution in 2021 inside his personal residence in Padmapukur village. The madrasa currently enrols 65 female students, 55 of whom live on the residential campus under the care of five teaching staff.
Disturbing details emerged from statements provided by the young victims and their guardians. The girls alleged that Rahman summoned them individually to his private office during afternoon hours under the pretext of massaging his body, hands, and feet. Once inside, he inappropriately fondled them beneath their clothing. To maintain silence, he routinely threatened them with physical beatings and death. The abuse reached a tipping point when Rahman attempted to force one of the young girls onto a bed, prompting her to escape his office through clever tactics.
Family members noted that both girls repeatedly resisted returning to the residential facility whenever they visited home on break. Their parents initially attributed this reluctance to past disciplinary beatings, which occurred after the children missed coaching sessions. Due to severe financial hardship, the family felt unable to withdraw them or challenge the management at the time.
The ordeal finally came to light after 19 October, when one of the girls stepped on a nail and returned home for medical attention. Feeling safe in their household, the sisters disclosed the months of systematic abuse to their parents.
Their stepfather, who has raised the girls as his own since early childhood, expressed immense grief and anger over the disclosures. According to his account, the abuse began three to four months after the sisters enrolled at the madrasa last year. He has called on the authorities to execute a thorough investigation and hold the offender accountable under the law.
Rahman rejected the claims entirely, terming them a orchestrated smear campaign. He asserted that the girls were expelled from the madrasa due to misbehaviour and claimed that their family fabricated the allegations out of resentment.
Golam Kibria Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Jhikargachha Police Station, confirmed awareness of the situation but noted that no written complaint has been formally lodged yet. He instructed the family to submit an official statement, promising immediate legal action once a formal case is filed.
