Sathi Akter, who owns Sathi Beauty Parlour in the Square Masterbari area of Bhaluka upazila, went live on Facebook on Sunday to voice her frustration over repeated thefts affecting her businesses and nearby properties. Her remarks circulated on social media, triggering tension among local BNP activists and residents. Police later arrived at her premises and took her to the station to prevent the situation from escalating.
According to local sources and police, Akter made the broadcast from a Facebook account named ‘Sathi Makeover’ on Sunday afternoon. She alleged that valuable items, including air-conditioning cables and electrical wiring, had recently been stolen from two of her showrooms, her home and several nearby shops.
The repeated incidents, she said, had caused substantial financial losses and left her struggling to cope with the situation.
Expressing her frustration during the broadcast, Akter said: “I have lost everything and feel as though I am going mad. Whom did I vote for to end up suffering like this?”
She also voiced dissatisfaction with the law and order situation and the security of business establishments, linking her predicament to her decision to vote. Her criticism of the BNP became a focal point of the controversy after the video spread across social media.
The remarks prompted a reaction from local BNP activists and members of the party’s affiliated organisations. On Sunday evening, a group of activists went to Akter’s parlour to question her about the comments. Tensions rose at the premises, raising concerns among local residents about the possibility of vandalism or other disorder.
Residents subsequently alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. Officers from Bhaluka Model Police Station then took Akter from the premises to the station.
Officer-in-Charge Zahidul Islam confirmed the incident. He said police had responded to reports of a possible attack at the parlour and intervened to prevent the situation from deteriorating. Akter was taken to the station after the tension surrounding her Facebook Live broadcast.
The officer also alleged that Akter behaved aggressively towards the police after they arrived. He said she was being held at the station and was expected to be produced before a court shortly.
The circumstances surrounding the incident raise questions about both the reported thefts and the confrontation that followed Akter’s public criticism. However, the available information does not establish whether the theft allegations have been investigated or whether any suspects have been identified. Details of the specific legal grounds for holding Akter were also not provided in the police account.
The incident began with an entrepreneur’s complaints about repeated losses at her business premises but escalated after her political remarks drew a reaction from local party activists. Further information from the authorities would be needed to clarify the legal proceedings against her and the status of the reported thefts.
