Police have confirmed that the student has been rescued and said efforts are under way to arrest the accused.
The principal accused in the case is Ariful Islam, 29, director and headteacher of Markazul Quran Adarsha Women’s Madrasa, located in the Sikdar Market area of Bekebari in Gazipur Sadar upazila.
The other four accused are identified as Md Sharif Mia, 35; Md Selim Mia, 55; Rahima Khatun, 40; and Md Delwar Hossain, 45. According to the case details, they live in rented accommodation in the Baniarchala and Pirojali areas of Gazipur. Their ancestral home is in Charbawla, under Mymensingh Sadar Police Station.
Allegations of harassment and threats
According to the complaint, the eighth-grade student was studying at the madrasa when Ariful Islam allegedly proposed a romantic relationship with her. The student did not accept the proposal, after which the teacher allegedly began harassing her in various ways.
The complaint further alleges that the student was threatened with abduction by force. When she informed her family about the alleged harassment and threats, her relatives reportedly approached the teacher and asked him to stop such behaviour.
The family alleges that Ariful Islam became angry following their intervention.
Five people named in abduction case
The complaint states that on the morning of 10 October, after the student had gone to the madrasa, Ariful Islam allegedly abducted her with the assistance of the four other accused.
Those named in the case include his brother, Md Sharif Mia; his father, Md Selim Mia; his mother, Rahima Khatun; and Md Delwar Hossain.
After the girl went missing, her family searched for her but was unable to locate her. Her father subsequently approached the police and filed a case against all five individuals on Sunday night.
The complaint forms the basis of the police case, and the allegations against the accused have yet to be established in court. No response from the accused was included in the information available about the case.
Police confirm rescue, arrests being pursued
Joydebpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Al Mamun confirmed that a case had been filed against five people in connection with the alleged abduction.
He also said the missing madrasa student had been rescued. Police are now attempting to arrest those accused in the case.
The incident has raised concerns about student safety and the responsibility of educational institutions to protect children in their care. Students should be able to attend classes without fear of harassment, intimidation or coercion, while allegations involving minors require prompt and careful investigation.
The next steps in the case will depend on the police investigation and the evidence gathered. Until the allegations are tested through the legal process, the accused must be treated as alleged offenders rather than as persons whose guilt has been established.
