Manikganj Drug Raid Nets One Suspect, Another Escapes

A man was arrested with 50 yaba tablets during a raid in Dhalai village in Manikganj Sadar Upazila on Monday, 26 October. A second suspect remains at large, and a case has been filed against both men in connection with alleged drug dealing.

The raid was conducted at around 1.15 pm by a team from the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), Manikganj District Office. The operation took place at a residential property reportedly under the control of the absconding suspect, Jewel, 38.

The team was led by Sub-Inspector Md Morshed Alam under the overall supervision of Humayun Kabir Khondakar, Deputy Director of the DNC’s Manikganj District Office. During the operation, officers searched the premises and recovered 50 yaba tablets, a stimulant drug containing methamphetamine. Arif, 30, was arrested at the scene, while Jewel could not be apprehended.

Arif is the son of Rustam Ali and a resident of Dhalai village in Nabagram Union, Manikganj Sadar Upazila. The second suspect, Jewel, is the son of the late Saizuddin Bepari and lives in the same village.

According to the Department of Narcotics Control, the two men are suspected of having been involved in drug dealing in the area for an extended period and allegedly operated in coordination with each other. The allegations are now subject to the legal process.

A case has been filed against both suspects at Manikganj Sadar Police Station. Arif has been arrested, while Jewel remains at large. The case will proceed in accordance with the applicable legal procedures.

The operation forms part of efforts by the authorities to tackle the distribution and sale of illegal drugs at the local level. Yaba trafficking remains a law-enforcement concern in Bangladesh, where agencies conduct raids and pursue suspected suppliers and sellers to disrupt the drug trade.

However, an arrest or the filing of a case does not establish guilt. The allegations against both men must be examined through the legal process, and their responsibility will be determined by the competent court.
