The post, published on Tuesday night, 27 October, sparked fresh discussion on social media, coming a day after a video interview with Tashreef’s father, Maulana Md Hedayetullah, was published by a national newspaper.
In the interview, Hedayetullah made several allegations against his son, claiming that he had sought financial assistance while unwell but received no help. He also alleged that Tashreef rarely, if ever, checked on his wellbeing.
The claims have prompted debate online about family responsibilities and the relationship between parents and their adult children. However, the allegations have not been independently verified, and Tashreef’s full response to his father’s claims was not available in the report.
Father recounts sacrifices made for his son
Speaking in an emotional voice during the interview, Hedayetullah said he had worked hard to raise and educate his son, helping him become a hafiz, someone who has memorised the Quran, and a maulana, a title associated with Islamic religious scholarship.
He also recalled a serious health problem Tashreef allegedly experienced during childhood. According to Hedayetullah, his son once suffered from a condition that prevented him from passing urine, requiring treatment at hospitals in Dhaka, Mymensingh and Mirzapur.
Hedayetullah said his income from working as a mosque imam was limited and insufficient to cover the medical expenses. He claimed that he had to seek financial assistance from other people to arrange his son’s treatment.
Describing the difficulties he faced, he expressed frustration over what he portrayed as a lack of recognition for his sacrifices. He maintained that he had struggled to ensure his son’s education and healthcare despite his own financial limitations.
His account formed a central part of the interview, in which he questioned whether his son had acknowledged the effort and resources invested in raising him.
Dispute over monthly financial assistance
Hedayetullah also alleged that he had left his job as a mosque imam on his son’s advice, after being promised a monthly payment of Tk 10,000.
According to his account, the promised financial assistance did not materialise. He did not provide further details in the reported interview about when the arrangement began or how long it was supposed to continue.
The father said he later approached his son for money when he himself became ill. He alleged that, instead of providing the requested assistance, Tashreef told him that he intended to buy land.
Expressing his disappointment, Hedayetullah questioned why his son could not help him after he had spent years raising and educating him.
The allegations have brought the family’s private dispute into the public domain. While the interview presents the father’s account, the circumstances surrounding the alleged financial arrangement and the reasons for the dispute remain unclear.
Tashreef’s Facebook post has added another dimension to the controversy, although the available report does not establish whether his remark was intended as a direct response to each of his father’s allegations.
Earlier controversy over remarks on alleged abuse case
The latest dispute follows another episode that drew criticism of Tashreef on social media.
He recently faced backlash after making remarks in support of a teacher at a madrasa in Tongi who had been accused of sexually abusing a female student. His comments prompted criticism online, according to the report.
The new allegations from his father have brought renewed attention to the religious speaker’s public statements and conduct. His latest Facebook post, in particular, has become a focal point of discussion, with users reacting to both the wording of the message and the circumstances in which it was published.
The controversy remains centred on competing questions: the father’s claims about financial support and family responsibilities, and Tashreef’s response to the media coverage.
At present, the available information does not establish the truth of the allegations. A fuller understanding of the dispute would require further details from both sides, including Tashreef’s account of the alleged monthly payments and his father’s claims about the assistance sought during illness.
