The Bangladesh Bank issued a circular letter on Monday confirming the closure. According to the notice, the decision follows a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on 7 October, declaring 7 November a general holiday in observance of National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
The circular states that all scheduled banks operating in Bangladesh will suspend their regular banking activities for the day in line with the government’s holiday announcement.
The closure means customers will not be able to visit bank branches for routine services, including cash deposits and withdrawals, cheque-related transactions and other in-person banking operations. Customers with urgent financial commitments may wish to complete their branch-dependent transactions before the holiday.
However, digital banking services, including internet banking, mobile banking and automated teller machines (ATMs), may remain available during the closure, depending on the arrangements made by individual banks. Customers should check with their respective banks for information about service availability and any restrictions that may apply.
National Revolution and Solidarity Day is observed in Bangladesh on 7 November and is associated with the country’s political history. The government’s decision to declare a public holiday for the occasion means that banking operations across the country will be affected.
The Bangladesh Bank’s circular provides formal notice to scheduled banks of the closure, allowing financial institutions and customers to plan their activities accordingly.
Regular branch-based banking services are expected to resume on the next scheduled working day after the holiday, in accordance with the applicable banking calendar.
