Bangladeshi Taka Stabilises Against Key Currencies as Central Bank Updates Official Exchange Rates

Official foreign currency rates released by Bangladesh Bank indicate relative stability for the Bangladeshi taka across major international trading units. The central bank’s published commercial exchange rates reflect the ongoing economic calibration in the nation’s banking sector, providing crucial benchmark figures for commercial transactions, overseas remittances, and import-export operations.

Under the current pricing schedule, the US dollar stands at 123.60 taka for purchases and 123.72 taka for sales. Commercial institutions continue to operate within these regulated boundaries, balancing import settlement requirements against incoming foreign remittances. Meanwhile, the British pound sterling is being quoted at 164.73 taka buying and 164.92 taka selling, while the euro trades at 138.91 taka buying and 139.06 taka selling.

Macroeconomic Background and Market Dynamics

The steady exchange rates follow structural monetary reforms implemented by Bangladesh Bank to manage foreign exchange volatility. Central bank authorities have relied on managed exchange mechanisms to bridge the gap between official mid-rates and market clearing rates, helping curb speculative trading and stabilise net international reserves.

Robust remittance flows from the non-resident Bangladeshi diaspora, combined with recovery in primary export earnings such as ready-made garments, have helped ease external balance pressures. Financial analysts note that maintaining narrow spreads between buying and selling prices is essential for reducing transaction costs for businesses while curbing illicit curb-market transfers. Authorized dealer banks across the country are expected to execute client transactions in strict adherence to these central bank directives.
