Unidentified Woman Found Dead on Tangail–Mymensingh Highway

Police have recovered the body of an unidentified woman from the Tangail–Mymensingh highway in Ghatail, Tangail, with preliminary suspicions that she may have been struck by an unidentified vehicle while crossing the road.

The body was recovered at around 6am on Wednesday, 28 October, from the Baniapara area of Ghatail upazila. The woman’s identity had not been established immediately, and police are working to determine who she was and the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to police and local residents, pedestrians spotted the woman’s body lying in the middle of the highway early on Wednesday morning. They subsequently informed the police, who arrived at the scene and recovered the body.

Initial assessments suggest that the woman may have been crossing the road when an unidentified vehicle hit her and continued without stopping. However, this remains a preliminary assumption, and the exact circumstances of the incident have yet to be established.

Police have not confirmed whether the woman died at the scene or whether any other factors contributed to her death. Further investigation will be needed to establish the sequence of events leading up to the incident.

Sub-Inspector Nazim Uddin of Ghatail Police Station said the body had been recovered and taken to the police station. He added that the woman’s identity was not immediately known and that efforts were under way to identify her.

Police are also taking the necessary steps to determine the cause of death. The body is due to be sent to Tangail Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The findings are expected to help investigators establish the cause of death and clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will also seek to establish whether a vehicle was involved and, if so, whether it can be identified. No details have yet been confirmed about the type of vehicle or the person responsible for the suspected collision.

Road accidents involving pedestrians remain a serious safety concern, particularly on busy highways where traffic moves at speed. Crossing such roads can be hazardous when designated crossing points are unavailable or difficult to access. However, there is currently no confirmed evidence that any specific road condition contributed to this incident.

For now, the woman’s identity and the precise circumstances of her death remain unknown. Police are continuing their enquiries, and further information is expected as identification efforts and the post-mortem examination progress.
