A dream trip to watch El Clásico turned into a bitter ordeal for a father and his teenage son after they were allegedly ejected from Camp Nou for celebrating a goal scored by Kylian Mbappé. Slovakian national Frantisek Vavrek detailed the incident to Spanish sports newspaper Marca, describing how an expensive 18th birthday gift for his son Denis degenerated into confrontation and disappointment at the hands of stadium security.
Vavrek had planned the excursion to Barcelona well in advance to mark his son’s milestone birthday on 25 October. To secure seats at one of football’s most iconic rivalries, he spent €2,800 on a pair of tickets. However, friction arose before the two even made it to their seats. Upon entering the stadium, security personnel ordered them to strip off their Real Madrid shirts. When Vavrek asked where they were supposed to store their clothing, staff pointed directly towards a rubbish bin.
Refusing to treat their team colours with such disrespect, Vavrek informed his son that as proud Real Madrid supporters, they would never discard their shirts in a bin. The pair kept their jerseys on and watched the opening hour of the match without incident.
The atmosphere shifted abruptly when French forward Kylian Mbappé found the net to give the visiting side the lead. Overjoyed by the breakthrough, father and son stood up and embraced each other in celebration. Stadium stewards intervened almost immediately, ordering both men out of the stands and escorting them away from the seating area.
Vavrek insisted that neither he nor his son displayed aggressive behaviour, made threats, or attempted to provoke the surrounding home supporters. He maintained that their celebration was limited entirely to standing up and sharing a brief hug. Although security staff initially suggested the pair could return to their seats if they removed their shirts, officials quickly reneged on that offer. Following brief questioning by local police, father and son were escorted off the stadium grounds.
The pair spent the remainder of the high-stakes fixture inside a taxi, watching the action unfold on a smartphone screen. FC Barcelona has not issued an official response regarding the allegations raised by the Slovakian visitors. Despite their early ejection from the ground, the father and son at least found solace in the final result, as Real Madrid went on to secure a 2-1 victory over their arch-rivals thanks to a double from Mbappé.
