The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have launched an extensive 24-hour enforcement campaign targeting traffic violators across the capital, resulting in the registration of 1,810 individual cases. The citywide operation, executed on Saturday by the DMP’s dedicated traffic division, marks a sharp intensification of efforts to restore order and improve road safety across Bangladesh’s bustling metropolis.
Official statistics released in a press statement by the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division highlighted a multi-pronged strategy to penalise non-compliance and clear congested thoroughfares. Alongside the substantial volume of legal notices issued, law enforcement officials impounded 498 vehicles and dispatched a further 381 to local impound lots via wrecker services.
Traffic management across Dhaka is divided into eight administrative divisions, each reflecting unique urban challenges. Regional figures show that the Motijheel division registered the highest volume of offences, recording 413 cases as officers cracked down on illegal parking and transit breaches in the main commercial core. In North Dhaka, Uttarans and Gulshan registered 304 and 303 cases respectively, reflecting targeted operations along major arterial routes connecting residential hubs to business districts. Meanwhile, Mirpur logged 284 cases, Lalbagh registered 181, Wari recorded 167, and Tejgaon registered 95. The Ramna division reported 63 violations over the same timeframe.
Dhaka remains one of the world’s most densely populated urban centers, where traffic congestion imposes severe economic burdens and daily disruptions for millions of commuters. Reckless driving, lane discipline breaches, unauthorised parking, and the operation of unfit vehicles frequently paralyse the capital’s road networks. Senior police officials reaffirmed that these rigorous drives will persist until drivers show greater adherence to statutory traffic laws, contributing to safer, more efficient transport across the capital.
