Militão’s El Clásico Night Ends in €350,000 Burglary

Real Madrid defender Éder Militão has been left counting the cost of a burglary at his home after thieves reportedly stole luxury watches, designer handbags and jewellery worth more than €350,000 while he was attending the first El Clásico of the La Liga season.

The Brazilian international was watching from the dugout as Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 in one of the most eagerly anticipated fixtures in Spanish football. However, the celebrations surrounding the victory were overshadowed by news that his residence had been targeted by intruders during the match.

According to reports by Spanish media, the burglary took place between 9pm and 10pm, during the first half of the game. At least two unidentified individuals reportedly gained access to an upstairs room of the property while several members of Militão’s family were watching the match on the ground floor.

Despite the presence of family members inside the house, nobody apparently noticed the intruders. The burglars made their way into the defender’s bedroom, searched through his belongings and escaped with several valuable possessions.

Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported that the stolen items included two particularly expensive watches. One was a Rolex valued at approximately €53,000, while the other was a Richard Mille timepiece worth around €170,000.

The thieves also reportedly took three Chanel handbags with a combined estimated value of €15,000. A Cartier ring and bracelet, together valued at approximately €25,000, were among the missing possessions. Several other pieces of jewellery, additional bracelets and suitcases were also reported stolen.

The total value of the missing belongings is estimated to exceed €350,000, equivalent to approximately five crore Bangladeshi taka. The scale of the loss makes the incident one of the more significant recent burglary cases involving a prominent footballer in Spain.

Militão reportedly discovered the theft after returning home following the match. The circumstances have raised questions about how the intruders managed to enter the property, search his bedroom and leave without attracting attention, despite his relatives being inside the residence.

The incident has added to growing concerns about the security of professional footballers and their families in Spain. In recent years, several high-profile players have experienced burglaries and armed robberies, with their homes becoming targets while they are occupied with matches or other professional commitments.

One of the most alarming cases involved former Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2022. Armed intruders broke into his home and assaulted him during the robbery, leaving him with a broken jaw. The incident highlighted the physical dangers that footballers and their families can face when criminals target their private residences.

Other football figures have also reportedly fallen victim to robberies this month. Real Betis striker Troy Parrott and former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico are among the names mentioned in recent reports.

For professional footballers, frequent travel, training sessions and match commitments can make maintaining the security of their homes particularly challenging. High-profile fixtures such as El Clásico also attract enormous public attention, although there is no confirmed indication that the burglars specifically selected the occasion because of the match.

Militão’s experience has once again brought the issue of footballers’ personal security into focus. While Real Madrid secured an important victory on the pitch, the Brazilian defender returned to a home that had been ransacked and valuable possessions missing.

Authorities have yet to release detailed information about the suspects, the investigation or whether any of the stolen items have been recovered.
