Police have recovered the partially decomposed bodies of a married couple from an agricultural field in Keshabpur upazila under Jessore district, triggering widespread shock and grief across the local community. The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Alek Sardar and his 38-year-old wife, Majeda Begum, residents of Magurkhali village within the nearby Mangalkote union.
The grim discovery unfolded on Saturday evening, 31 October, in a rural tract of land situated between Kamlapur and Brahmandanga villages in the Panjia union. At around 5:00 pm, a local farmer named Afsar Ali Gazi ventured into the fields to plant cabbage seedlings. While navigating near a shallow tube-well irrigation pump and an adjacent paddy field owned by a local resident named Kuddus, he stumbled upon the remains of a man and a woman.
Alarmed by the sighting, Afsar immediately notified his nephew, Shahid, who in turn alerted the local village police constable, Sirajul Islam. Upon receiving the message, a team from Keshabpur Police Station dispatched to the spot around 8:00 pm to secure the crime scene, retrieve the bodies, and formally identify the victims.
Preliminary assessments by law enforcement suggest that the couple were murdered several days prior to their discovery, given the advanced state of decomposition. However, the precise motive behind the killings and the identities of those involved remain unknown.
The double homicide prompted an immediate, multi-agency response. Specialized units, including the Jessore District Detective Branch (DB), the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), joined local officers at the scene. Forensic technicians spent hours gathering physical evidence and documenting the surroundings to piece together the sequence of events.
The investigation is being conducted under the direct supervision of District Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam. Senior officers present at the location included Assistant Superintendent of Police (Manirampur Circle) Imdadul Haq, Keshabpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman, and PBI Inspector Debabrata Hari.
Police have transported both corpses to the local hospital morgue for a comprehensive post-mortem examination, which authorities hope will establish the exact cause and timing of death. Law enforcement agencies have confirmed that joint investigative efforts remain underway to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
