The Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka has officially suspended all Schengen visa application processing operations across Bangladesh. Concurrently, the diplomatic mission declared that it no longer retains institutional authority to provide guidance, information, or administrative assistance regarding Schengen visa matters. The decision was formally communicated in an official notice issued by the embassy on Monday, 2nd November 2026, marking a complete shift in visa administration.
Under the newly instituted administrative directive, individuals seeking Schengen visas, submitting official invitation letters, lodging formal appeals against visa refusals, or inquiring about specific pending applications must now correspond directly with the Swedish Migration Agency. Embassy officials emphasised that the diplomatic post in Dhaka will no longer handle front-line administrative inquiries, process physical visa documentation, or manage local correspondence relating to European short-stay entry permits.
The notice specifically underscored that the embassy’s authority to provide information, procedural advice, or clarification concerning Schengen visas has lapsed entirely. Consequently, prospective applicants, along with their sponsoring entities, family hosts, or business partners, are instructed to direct all visa-related queries directly to the central Swedish Migration Agency rather than approaching the embassy premises in Dhaka. Direct institutional resources and contact avenues have been outlined to assist applicants in reaching the migration authority overseas.
A Schengen visa functions as a short-stay entry permit granting international travellers access to 29 European countries within the Schengen Area. The visa permits holders to travel freely across participating member states for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. It is widely used by individuals travelling for short-term business engagements, holiday visits, academic conferences, or family reunions across European partner nations.
For Bangladeshi travellers, students, researchers, and corporate representatives planning European travel, the Swedish embassy in Dhaka previously served as a key regional focal point for receiving visa applications and managing entry documentation. This sudden transition of operational responsibility to the centralised Migration Agency in Sweden introduces a substantial change to the administrative workflow across Bangladesh. Moving forward, applicants and local sponsors must adapt to interacting directly with Sweden’s central migration authorities via overseas digital and administrative networks for all future visa enquiries, status updates, and application procedures.
