The arrested man, identified as Naushad Alam, 28, is the joint convener of the Jubo Dal committee in Shaherkhali Union, under Mirsharai Upazila.
Police arrested him at around 3pm on Tuesday during an operation at his residence in Shaherkhali Union. Following his arrest, the DB police handed him over to Mirsharai Police Station at around 5pm for further legal proceedings.
Farida Yasmin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mirsharai Police Station, confirmed the arrest. She said the DB police had apprehended Naushad Alam and subsequently transferred him to the police station.
“Necessary legal action is being taken in this regard,” she said.
The arrest has drawn attention to the issue of illegal firearms and locally made weapons, particularly in areas where political activists are involved in local organisational activities. The recovery of such weapons is a matter of concern for law enforcement agencies, as unauthorised possession of firearms can pose risks to public safety and potentially contribute to local tensions.
However, the police have not disclosed further details about the specific circumstances surrounding the recovery, the source of the weapons or whether anyone else may be connected to the incident.
It is also unclear whether Naushad Alam faces any additional allegations beyond those related to the weapons reportedly recovered during the operation. The investigation and subsequent legal proceedings are expected to establish the relevant details.
His arrest does not, by itself, establish guilt. Any allegations against him will need to be examined through the proper legal process.
