Tragic Eight Hours in Abhaynagar Claims Three Lives Including Student

A harrowing stretch of eight hours turned tragic in Abhaynagar, Jashore, as two separate road collisions claimed three lives, including that of a college student, whilst leaving another individual critically injured.

The first incident unfolded late on Tuesday night along the busy Jashore-Khulna highway in the Prembag Urotola area. Abdullah Al Apon, a 21-year-old higher secondary student at Pairahat United College, was travelling on a motorbike alongside his friend, Alamin, aged 30. Shortly after midnight, their vehicle slammed violently into the rear of a moving lorry. The collision threw both riders onto the tarmac, inflicting catastrophic injuries.

Passers-by immediately rushed to the scene and transported the casualties to the Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex. Upon arrival, the attending physician declared Apon dead. Apon was the son of Obaidur Rahman, residing in Buikara village within Abhaynagar upazila. Alamin, hailing from Satkhira district, sustained life-threatening injuries. Following initial emergency treatment, medical staff referred him to Gazi Medical College Hospital in Khulna, where he remains in a precarious condition.

Before the community could process the late-night tragedy, a second disaster struck early on Wednesday morning at approximately 8:30 am near the Nawapara Bhairab Bridge. A passenger transport vehicle crashed into a three-wheeled van carrying two local commuters. The impact splintered the van and knocked its occupants directly into the thoroughfare.

Locals swiftly organized a rescue effort, carrying the severely wounded commuters to the same upazila health facility. Tragically, both men were pronounced dead on arrival. The deceased were identified as Abdus Samad Biswas, 50, son of Moin Biswas, and Abdul Wahab, 55, son of Haider Ali. Both men belonged to Deyapara village in Abhaynagar upazila.

Dr Sabuj Biplob, an attending medical officer at the Abhaynagar Health Complex, confirmed that three individuals had succumbed to their injuries before reaching medical assistance. He noted that the surviving victim’s vital parameters necessitated immediate transfer to a specialized private healthcare facility in Khulna.

Officer-in-Charge of Nawapara Highway Police Station, Md. Saiful Islam, stated that authorities arrived promptly at both crash sites. Officers recovered the wrecked motorcycle from Prembag, whilst active searches are underway to trace the hit-and-run transport vehicle involved in the morning collision. Formal legal cases have been registered for both incidents as law enforcement officers continue their investigation into the surrounding circumstances.
