Joao Neves Commits His Future to Paris Saint-Germain

Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves has little desire to pursue a career in Spain or England, despite the appeal of playing in two of European football’s most prominent leagues. The 22-year-old instead hopes to spend his entire professional career at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), where he is determined to win more trophies and establish a lasting legacy.

In an interview with French broadcaster Canal+, Neves spoke openly about his ambitions and his growing attachment to the Parisian club. Asked about the possibility of moving to another major European side, he made it clear that neither La Liga nor the Premier League features in his plans. For him, personal happiness and continued success with PSG matter far more than testing himself in a different league.

“I have absolutely no ambition to go to a club in Spain or England. My main objective is to be happy and feel good about my life, and to win one trophy after another with PSG. I want to spend my entire football career here,” Neves said.

The midfielder joined PSG from Portuguese club Benfica in 2024 in a transfer reportedly worth around €70 million. His arrival represented a significant investment by the French champions in one of Portugal’s highly regarded young talents. He has since adapted quickly to life in Paris and become an important figure in head coach Luis Enrique’s midfield plans.

Neves’ influence extends beyond his defensive responsibilities. He is capable of breaking up opposition attacks, retaining possession under pressure and distributing the ball accurately to help his team move forward. His work rate and awareness allow him to contribute in different phases of play, while his ability to score goals and create opportunities for team-mates adds another dimension to his game.

These qualities have made him a valuable component of Enrique’s tactical system. PSG rely on midfielders who can combine technical ability with energy and tactical discipline, and Neves has demonstrated that he can fulfil several responsibilities within the team. His performances have helped him establish himself as one of the club’s important midfield options.

His commitment to the French side is also reflected in his contractual future. Neves has recently extended his contract with PSG until 2031, strengthening the club’s long-term plans and providing further security over the services of a player it considers an important part of its project.

He has also reached the milestone of 100 appearances for the Parisian outfit. Achieving that landmark after joining in 2024 reflects how quickly he has become integrated into the squad and earned a regular place in the club’s plans.

At just 22, Neves has considerable time ahead of him to develop further and achieve more in European football. His comments, however, suggest that he is not interested in treating PSG as a stepping stone to another major club. Instead, he wants to build his career in Paris, continue competing for the biggest honours and become a long-serving figure at the French side.

For PSG, having a young midfielder express such a strong desire to remain at the club is an encouraging sign. With his contract running until 2031 and his influence growing within the squad, Neves appears determined to make Paris his long-term home. His ambition is straightforward: to enjoy his football, help PSG collect more silverware and, if everything goes according to plan, bring his playing career to an end in the French capital.
