England fast bowler Ollie Robinson has been named the country’s Cricketer of the Year in recognition of an impressive return to international cricket after more than two years away from the national side. The 32-year-old right-arm pacer enjoyed an outstanding summer in 2026, making a significant impact with the ball and re-establishing his place in England’s Test set-up.
The award was announced at the Vitality Cricket Media Club Awards ceremony, held at Lord’s. Robinson received the Bob Willis Trophy, named in honour of the former England captain, whose contribution to English cricket remains widely recognised.
Robinson made his Test debut for England in 2021 and quickly established himself as an important member of the team’s pace attack. However, his international career experienced a prolonged interruption after he last featured in a Test match in February 2024. He subsequently fell out of favour with the selectors, and questions remained over whether he would return to the international stage.
His opportunity finally came in June 2026, when he earned a recall to the England squad after a gap of two years and four months. Rather than taking time to settle back into international cricket, Robinson made an immediate impression with a series of impressive performances.
His comeback began against New Zealand in a Test match at Lord’s. Robinson took five wickets in the first innings and followed that effort with another two in the second, finishing the match with seven wickets. The performance underlined his ability to trouble opposition batters and provided a strong indication that he had regained his effectiveness at the highest level.
He maintained that momentum in England’s subsequent home Test series against Pakistan. Across the three matches, Robinson claimed 21 wickets in six innings, producing a consistent display of fast bowling. His ability to take wickets throughout the series proved particularly valuable and strengthened his case for individual recognition.
Across four Test matches during the year, his performances were instrumental in securing the Cricketer of the Year honour. The award represents a significant personal achievement, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding his international future during his lengthy absence from the England side.
Speaking after receiving the trophy, Robinson described the recognition as a tremendous honour. He said returning to the England team after spending such a long period away and delivering strong performances during the summer had made the achievement especially meaningful.
He also acknowledged the difficult periods he had experienced during his absence from international cricket. According to Robinson, those challenges made the award even more special. He expressed his enjoyment at representing England again and said he hoped to achieve further success with the national team in the future.
Meanwhile, Middlesex fast bowler Navia Sharma was named Young Cricketer of the Year at the same ceremony. The 21-year-old earned recognition for his impressive performances in county cricket, taking 35 wickets in nine County Championship matches.
Sharma also played an important role in Middlesex’s One-Day Cup triumph, further highlighting his growing reputation as a promising young fast bowler. His performances across the domestic competitions have marked him out as a player to watch in the coming years.
The young paceman is currently touring the West Indies with the England Lions, gaining further experience at a higher level of representative cricket.
While Robinson’s award celebrates an impressive return after a prolonged absence, Sharma’s recognition reflects the emergence of promising young talent in English cricket. Both achievements highlight the contributions of fast bowlers at different stages of their careers, with Robinson delivering immediate results on his international comeback and Sharma continuing to build his reputation through consistent domestic performances.
