Police have arrested Engineer Robiul Alam Uzzal, a former vice chairman of Singair Upazila Parishad and general secretary of the upazila unit of the Swechchhasebak League, in connection with an explosive substances case in Manikganj. Officers apprehended the 48-year-old politician from his residence adjacent to the central temple in the Angaria neighbourhood of Singair Municipality on Thursday afternoon, 5 November.
The arrest stems from a criminal case registered at Singair Police Station following a violent incident involving explosions at a local establishment known as Adda Cafe. Law enforcement authorities subsequently filed a formal case under the Explosive Substances Act, listing Uzzal as one of the primary named accused in the First Information Report (FIR). Police officers had been conducting targeted operations to trace key figures implicated in the incident.
According to police sources, intelligence officers received specific information indicating that Uzzal was present at his municipal residence. Acting on the lead, an operational squad from Singair Police Station executed an afternoon raid on the property near the central temple. Officers cordoned off the building before taking the former local representative into custody without resistance.
Uzzal, son of Md Lokman Master hailing from Waijnagar village under Chandhar Union, has been a recognisable figure in local politics across Singair upazila for several years. Alongside his organisational duties as the general secretary of the local Swechchhasebak League unit, he previously contested local government elections and served a full tenure as the upazila parishad’s elected vice chairman.
Confirming the development, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Singair Police Station, Md Mazharul Islam, stated that Uzzal was taken into custody due to his direct inclusion in the police-initiated explosive substances case. The police chief noted that initial questioning and procedural formalities are being completed, after which the suspect will be produced before the court to seek judicial remand. Investigators are continuing drives across the upazila to apprehend remaining suspects associated with the Adda Cafe incident.
