Man Arrested Over Alleged Sale of Family Members’ Private Videos

Police in Narsingdi have arrested a 40-year-old man accused of secretly recording nude and explicit videos of his wife, daughter, sister-in-law and niece before selling the footage to international pornography websites.

The suspect, identified as Gias Uddin, was arrested during a police raid on a rented house in the Paiksa area of Ghorashal Municipality, under Palash upazila, on Friday evening, 6 November.

Gias Uddin is the son of Babul Mia and originally comes from Ghonpara village in the Kaliganj police station area of Gazipur district.

According to intelligence and police sources, Gias had allegedly been involved in the activity for an extended period while living with his family in a rented house in the Madhabdi area of Narsingdi. Taking advantage of his close family relationships and shared living arrangements, he allegedly recorded intimate and explicit footage of family members without their knowledge or consent.

Investigators believe he subsequently sold the recordings to various international pornography websites in exchange for substantial sums of money. Intelligence officials have also reportedly identified suspicious high-value transactions in his bank accounts. These financial activities are now being examined to establish whether they were connected to the alleged distribution of the videos.

Sources said Gias recently left his rented accommodation in Madhabdi, apparently in an attempt to avoid administrative and law enforcement surveillance. He subsequently moved into a newly constructed building in the Paiksa area of Ghorashal, where he took another property on rent.

However, the change of residence did not prevent investigators from tracking him down.

The operation followed confidential information provided by the National Security Intelligence (NSI). After receiving the intelligence, officials monitored the movements of the individuals involved and the vehicle they were travelling in. Acting on the information, Palash Police conducted a raid at the rented property and arrested Gias.

Palash Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahed Al Mamun confirmed the arrest, saying that the operation had resulted in the detention of the main suspect. Police also recovered various items and evidence related to pornography production from the property.

The recovered materials are expected to form part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged activities.

The OC said investigators were examining whether anyone else had been involved in the operation. Police are also looking into the possibility of a wider network supporting the recording, storage and distribution of the footage.

Legal proceedings against the suspect are under way.

The allegations have raised serious concerns about personal privacy, digital exploitation and the misuse of intimate recordings within domestic settings. The unauthorised recording and distribution of such material can cause lasting psychological and social harm to victims, while its circulation through international online platforms can make removal particularly difficult.

Investigators will now need to establish how the recordings were produced, whether the alleged victims were aware of the activities, how the material reached overseas platforms and whether the suspicious bank transactions were linked to its sale.

The allegations against Gias Uddin remain subject to investigation, and further legal action will depend on the evidence gathered by law enforcement authorities.
