An application has been filed in a Gazipur court seeking legal action against Sarjis Alam, the northern chief organiser of the NCIP, accusing him of defamation for falsely implicating the BNP in the murder of journalist Tuhin.

The plaintiff in the case is Tanvir Siraj, president of the BNP’s Basan Thana unit.

Details of the Case Filing

On Tuesday, 12 August, Tanvir Siraj submitted the application at the Gazipur Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. He is seeking compensation of 100 crore Bangladeshi Taka (approximately £8.5 million) for defamation.

Allegations by Tanvir Siraj

Tanvir Siraj stated: “Journalist Tuhin was brutally murdered for filming a criminal gang. However, without proper knowledge, the NCIP northern chief organiser Sarjis Alam falsely linked the BNP to this incident on Facebook, spreading various defamatory allegations that have tarnished the party’s reputation.”

He further added: “The GMP commissioner has already uncovered the main mystery behind this murder and stated there is no political involvement in the case.

“Therefore, following party directives, I have lodged the case as the plaintiff and hope for justice.”

Court Proceedings and Instructions

The application was submitted before Judge Alomgir Al Mamun of the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court 2 bench.

After hearing the case, the judge instructed the Gazipur CID police to investigate the matter and submit a report.
