Following the dissolution of old committees and the announcement of new convenor committees in 18 halls at Dhaka University (DU), Ferdous Siddique Simon and Md. Mahdijjaman Jyoti have taken leadership roles at Sir A F Rahman Hall. Both are residential students of A F Rahman Hall.

Profiles of Convenor and Secretary

• Ferdous Siddique Simon, the Convenor, is a student of the 2018–2019 session in the Japanese Studies department at Dhaka University.
• Md. Mahdijjaman Jyoti, the Member Secretary, is a student of the 2022–2023 session in the Anthropology department.

Statements from the New Leaders

Convenor Ferdous Siddique Simon told Jago News:

“After a long struggle and effort, we have reached this position today. Embracing the ideals of Bangladeshi nationalism, I began my political journey on the streets from a young age. I am pleased to be recognised by the party.”

He added:

“We will continue our struggle to build a liberal, democratic society and state. Against the politics of hall occupation and dominance, we are committed to practising tolerant and respectful student politics. Maintaining this commitment, we will always stand at the forefront to secure the rights of students.”

Member Secretary Mahdijjaman Jyoti said:

“I am grateful, proud, and responsible to be appointed as the Member Secretary of the newly formed Sir A F Rahman Hall committee of the Dhaka University Student League.”

He emphasised:

“Our politics will never oppose students, a principle we have highlighted through our student gatherings and the declaration of nine demands. Amplifying students’ voices will be the core of our politics.”
