Jatin Sarkar, a leftist intellectual, Independence Award-winning writer, and distinguished educator, has passed away. He died while receiving treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Wednesday, 13 August, at 2:45 pm. He was 89 years old.
Health and Circumstances of Death
Family sources reported that Sarkar had been suffering from various age-related complications for an extended period. In June, he fell and sustained a thigh bone injury. Following treatment in Dhaka, he was transferred to Mymensingh last week, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Early Life and Career
Jatin Sarkar was born on 18 August 1936 in Chandpara village, Kendua Upazila, Netrokona. He served as a teacher in the Bengali Department at Nasirabad College, Mymensingh and was deeply involved in literary activities and left-wing politics for many years.
He also held the position of President of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Goshti for two terms. Sarkar’s body will be taken to the Udichi Mymensingh office for tributes, according to the organisation.

Retirement and Later Life
Sarkar retired from teaching in 2002, after more than 42 years in the profession. Following retirement, he returned to his home district of Netrokona with his wife, Kanan Sarkar, and resided in their home in the Satpai area of the city.
