Former Brazil international David Luiz, once a regular face in the national team, is facing serious allegations. He has been accused of threatening to abduct a woman. Following the complaint, a court has issued a protection order to ensure that Luiz cannot approach the alleged victim.
The 38-year-old defender signed with Cyprus club Pafos FC earlier this month. Prior to that, he played for Fortaleza in Brazil. The complainant, Francisca Caroline Barboza, claims that she had a relationship with Luiz during his time at Fortaleza. She alleges that he threatened her through social media during that period.
Barboza, a resident of Senador Pompeu, Ceará, and a mother of one child, filed a complaint with the police on 25 August. The following day, she applied for a court-issued protection order. On Wednesday, the Ceará Court of Justice granted an emergency restraining order, instructing local authorities to ensure her safety.
Barboza’s lawyer, Fabiano Tavora, stated that Luiz communicated with her regularly via Instagram, where the threatening messages were allegedly sent. Brazilian media outlet CNN Brazil reported having obtained screenshots of the threatening messages.
Some of the alleged messages include:
Tavora noted that these messages caused Barboza to fear a fate similar to the 2010 Eliza Samudio case, in which the goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes de Souza was involved in her abduction and murder.
Luiz’s public relations office released a statement:“The matter is under judicial confidentiality. Therefore, the player will not make any public comment. He is committed to the truth and believes that the appropriate authorities will uncover it.”
This development has sparked widespread concern, given Luiz’s high profile and the serious nature of the allegations.
