Simon Taufel Joins BCB on Two-Year Contract

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former ICC Elite Panel umpire Simon Taufel on a two-year contract. The primary objective of this appointment is to enhance the skills of local umpires, with the Australian umpire bringing his vast international experience to Bangladesh.

Initially, it was reported that Taufel would join on a three-year contract, but during the BCB board meeting on Monday, a new decision was made. Over the next two years, the renowned umpire will work alongside the country’s umpires and other match officials. Taufel has been recognised for his excellence, having won the ICC Umpire of the Year award five consecutive times.

 

Following the recent board meeting, Umpires’ Committee Chairman Iftikhar Rahman Mithu commented on Taufel’s appointment: “Recently, we contacted former ICC Elite Panel umpire Simon Taufel. He has worked extensively on the development of umpires in various countries and has strong connections with the ICC. We had been in discussions with him for 4–5 months, and now the board has approved his engagement.”
