If Free and Fair Elections Are Held, JCD Will Win in DUCSU: Rizvi

Senior Joint Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, has expressed confidence that the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) would emerge victorious in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, provided the polls are held in a free and fair manner.

Rizvi stated: “Chhatra Dal is a party of struggle, movement, and ideology. If Dhaka University students are able to exercise their voting rights freely, the JCD panel will win.”

He made these remarks on Wednesday, 3 September, while speaking at a discussion meeting held before a rally organised by Dhaka District BNP to mark the 47th founding anniversary of the BNP.

Referring to the ongoing political debate regarding the Proportional Representation (PR) system, Rizvi criticised other political parties for suddenly raising the issue without public demand.

He questioned:

• “What is the PR system? Can any ordinary citizen explain it? Can villagers or the common people of this country understand it?”
• “This system has never been used, there is no precedent for it, and it is not something the people want.”

The discussion meeting was presided over by Khandaker Abu Ashfaq, President of Dhaka District BNP, and conducted by the unit’s General Secretary Nipun Roy.
