Factional Infiltration in Left-Wing Student Organisations: Amanullah Aman

Amanullah Aman, Central Organising Secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Student Party (BNSP), has claimed that factions linked to his party have infiltrated even left-leaning student organisations at Rajshahi University (RU). He further asserted that the number of faction-linked IDs in Bangladesh surpasses the country’s population.

These remarks were made at a press conference held at RU’s Transport Market on Thursday, 4 September, at 3:00 pm.

Aman said that even if a particular area has only ten faction members, a single social media post by the local faction president can attract 10,000 comments.

“I ask: do these people come from heaven, or have they taken leave from hell? We do not know. I urge them to bring their real manpower forward and speak openly, not from hiding. Bangladeshi students no longer accept such politics,” he said.

In response to a question about not granting female committees, Aman explained that RU is an exceptional campus where no organisation operates through just one or two layers; many have 2–3 organisational layers.

He added that several hall provosts pressured female students to join the Islamic Student Organisation, which discourages some from joining the BNSP despite interest, due to fear.

In a separate incident, 91 female students were summoned to the hall administration office at RU after entering Hall 36 past 11:00 pm in July. Following this, Anisur Rahman Milon, Vice-President of the Shah Makhdum Hall branch of the BNSP, made obscene comments about the students.

He posted on social media under the students’ photo cards: “These are not students; these are unpaid sex workers.”

In response, the BNSP immediately suspended Milon’s organisational post and formed an investigation committee. Committee members included Shakilur Rahman Sohag, Senior Vice-President of the branch, and Shafiqul Islam Shafik, Senior Joint General Secretary.

Attempts to contact Milon for clarification were unsuccessful, as he refused to provide satisfactory answers and switched off his phone, confirming the deliberate nature of his remarks.

As a result, Milon was expelled from his post as Vice-President for life.

On Thursday afternoon, the RU branch of the BNSP filed a case against Milon at Motihar Police Station, and the matter was subsequently addressed in the press conference.
