‘Nothing to Prove to Anyone,’ Zaker Speaks Before Leaving for Asia Cup

The Bangladesh cricket team embarked on its first contingent journey for the Asia Cup today (Sunday), with a total of 13 members in the squad. Among them is the hard-hitting batsman Zaker Ali Anik, who spoke to the media at the airport prior to departure at 10:15 AM, expressing confidence in the team’s preparation.

Zaker remarked, “The dressing room environment has always been positive. Overall, our preparation has been very good—from fitness sessions to the Netherlands series. We hope to perform well in the Asia Cup.”

Highlighting the approach needed in major tournaments, Zaker added, “In big tournaments, every match comes with pressure, and each should be approached with the same mindset. Whether it’s a series or a tournament, we play every match with the same focus. There is nothing different—we just want to concentrate on our basics and execute our plan.”

Bangladesh’s T20 performance has often faced criticism for inconsistency. Addressing this, Zaker clarified, “There is nothing to prove to anyone. We will play our cricket and give our best performance. That is our goal for the Asia Cup.”

The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled from 9 September to 28 September. Bangladesh will begin their campaign with a match against Hong Kong on 11 September. They are placed in Group B, alongside Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.

Venue Number of Matches
Dubai 11
Abu Dhabi 8

The tournament opener will be held in Abu Dhabi, while the final is scheduled in Dubai.

Zaker’s remarks emphasise a team-first mentality, aiming to deliver consistent performances throughout the tournament, rather than responding to external criticisms.
