BCB Elections Scheduled for 4 October

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections would take place in the first week of October. At that time, a specific date had not been officially confirmed. Last week, the BCB formed a three-member election commission to oversee the upcoming polls. It has now been confirmed that the BCB Board of Directors election will be held on 4 October. The final schedule for nomination collection and submission is yet to be announced.

According to the Board’s constitution and regulations, the responsibility to conduct and complete the election was entrusted to Senior Advocate Mohammad Hossain of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner.

He confirmed to Dhaka Post today (Sunday) that the elections will indeed be held on 4 October, with formal activities beginning from 20 September.

Although minor adjustments may occur, the draft schedule is as follows:

Stage Proposed Dates Notes
Nomination Collection 22–23 September Candidates to collect nomination forms
Nomination Submission 25 September Submission deadline for all candidates
Verification & Scrutiny 26 September Review of submitted nominations
Election Day 4 October Voting for directors; e-ballot and postal voting available for those unable to attend in person

To win in the BCB elections, directors must secure the votes of the councillors. Key points:

  • BCB has 171 councillors, with 76 from Dhaka clubs.
  • Of the 25-member Board, 12 members are elected from club cricket.
  • 10 members come from divisional and regional levels.
  • The BCB President will be elected by the votes of the elected directors.

This structure underscores the significance of club-level representation and the influence of councillors in determining the leadership of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
