After nearly two months of intense competition, the ২০২৫ National Football Championship will conclude today with a final match between Sirajganj and Dinajpur districts. With both sides reaching the final for the first time, fans are guaranteed to witness a new champion in Bangladeshi football.
The final is scheduled for 2:45 pm at the Bir Sreshtho Shahid Sipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur. Dinajpur earned their place by defeating Chittagong 3-2 in a thrilling semi-final, while Sirajganj advanced past Jashore with a 2-0 victory. The North Bengal rivalry promises a gripping contest for the prestigious title.
Sirajganj coach Mahbub Alam Pial reflected, “It has been 39 years since our district reached such a stage. We’ve worked tirelessly to arrive here, and now our goal is to lift the trophy.” Captain Milon added that the young squad sees the final as a challenge to rise to, anticipating strong support from local fans travelling in 8–10 buses. Despite their inexperience, Pial is confident the players can sustain the intensity for the full match.
Dinajpur’s squad, by contrast, brings valuable experience on turf surfaces. Captain Masud Rana said, “Playing on turf gives us an advantage, and we hope to capitalise on that.” Coach Shamim Ahmed also praised the team’s composition, emphasising the mix of city and rural talent, and expressed confidence in their chances despite Sirajganj being a formidable opponent.
The home-and-away format used for the last eight fixtures allowed both teams to develop strategies to cope with pressure both at home and away. The final is expected to be a high-quality contest, highlighting emerging football talent and the growing competitiveness of district-level football in Bangladesh.
