Afghanistan Earthquake Death Toll Exceeds 900

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan has claimed the lives of more than 900 people, while approximately 3,000 others have been injured, according to a spokesman for the national disaster authority.

Mohammad Hamad, the national disaster authority spokesman, cautioned that “this toll could increase”, highlighting the ongoing uncertainty in the affected regions.

The earthquake has caused widespread destruction in eastern Afghanistan, with emergency services working to reach remote areas cut off by landslides and damaged infrastructure.

Rescue operations are underway, but officials warn that the final death toll may rise as more information emerges from hard-to-reach villages.
