Statements made by a morgue assistant (dom) who assisted in the post-mortem examination, captured on a undercover camera by Ekattor Television, suggest that evidence of sexual assault was found on Agami Chakraborty’s body. However, the police have not yet confirmed any instance of rape. This mismatch between the morgue assistant’s account and the earlier statements issued by law enforcement has sparked fresh debate surrounding the investigation.

In the recorded footage, the morgue assistant was heard noting that any discrepancy between his observation and the official medical report could complicate matters. He mentioned receiving information regarding the presence of semen in the victim’s vaginal area, while adding that he must adhere to whatever the forensic doctor documents in the final report.

The assistant further hinted that the family had discussed certain aspects of the incident, though he indicated those details could not be publicly disclosed. He added that a specialist team and a magistrate were expected to arrive from Dhaka, claiming that his extensive experience allowed him to deduce specific details simply by examining a body.

Despite these assertions, the morgue assistant’s verbal claims cannot be regarded as conclusive medical or forensic proof. Allegations of rape cannot be verified through third-party statements alone; they require an official post-mortem report from qualified medical examiners, forensic analysis of collected samples, and expert evaluation.

What Was the Initial Police Account?

In the immediate aftermath of the quadruple murder, the initial findings released by the police made no mention of sexual assault or rape regarding Agami Chakraborty.

According to the police narrative, the violence stemmed from an altercation over opposition to Yaba consumption on the building’s rooftop. Investigators stated that the suspects, Mugdha Das and Siddhartha Das, first murdered Ganapati Chakraborty before killing his wife Pritilata, daughter Agami, and son Ayush in succession.

Police further claimed that after committing the murders, the perpetrators looted gold ornaments from the residence and ransacked the rooms to mislead the investigation.

Both Mugdha Das and Siddhartha Das were subsequently arrested. Authorities confirmed that both individuals submitted confessional statements in court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. To ensure a more comprehensive probe, the case was later transferred from the local police station to the Detective Branch (DB).

What Did the Post-Mortem Examination Reveal?

The forensic findings have brought additional inconsistencies to light.

The physician conducting the autopsy, Dr Bablu Kumar Biswas, stated that preliminary observations suggest all four victims died of asphyxiation due to strangulation. Crucially, Dr Biswas noted that there was no evidence of a fractured jaw on Agami Chakraborty’s body.

This finding directly challenges the initial description provided by the police, which claimed that a rope wrapped tightly around Agami’s neck and face had fractured her jaw and caused her eyes to bulge. The examining physician explicitly stated that no such bone fractures were observed.

Questions were also raised concerning a fluid present near the victim’s mouth. Dr Biswas clarified that the substance did not appear to result from chemical or acid exposure, attributing it instead to natural decomposition processes. He added that several biological samples have been dispatched for detailed laboratory analysis.

Consequently, the disparities between the preliminary narrative presented by the police and the direct findings of the forensic examiner have become a central focus of the ongoing enquiry.

How Valid Are the Rape Allegations?

The veracity of the sexual assault claim remains unconfirmed.

While the undercover recording of the morgue assistant references the potential presence of biological fluid, law enforcement agencies have refrained from confirming any sexual violence.

Investigating officials emphasised that a definitive conclusion cannot be reached until the official forensic reports are formally released. The mere presence of unidentified fluid or biological material does not automatically constitute legal proof of assault. The origin of any sample, DNA matching, and its direct link to the crime scene must undergo rigorous forensic verification.

Therefore, while the morgue assistant’s recorded statements have raised critical questions, they cannot be accepted as established fact at this stage.

The divergence between the early statements of the police and the observations of the forensic doctor regarding Agami Chakraborty’s cause of death has intensified public scrutiny.

Where police initially reported a fractured jaw, the medical examiner found no structural damage. Similarly, initial police briefs contained no reference to potential sexual violence.
