Armed Gang Attacks Gazipur Railway Police Outpost, Two Officers Injured

An armed gang launched a violent assault on the Joydebpur Railway Police Outpost in Gazipur on Thursday afternoon, leaving two officers injured as the assailants attempted to snatch two narcotics suspects from custody. The brazen raid occurred at approximately 5:15 pm following an earlier anti-drug operation conducted nearby.
According to railway police authorities, officers stationed at the Joydebpur Railway Junction received confidential intelligence regarding active drug dealing near the southern perimeter of the station. Acting swiftly, police personnel and security staff carried out a targeted raid, detaining a man and a woman found in possession of illicit narcotics. The suspects were promptly escorted to the nearby railway police outpost for preliminary questioning and legal processing.
However, shortly after the suspects were brought in, their associates mobilized a large group to orchestrate an escape attempt. A crowd numbering between 40 and 50 men arrived at the premises armed with lethal domestic weapons, including cleavers, machetes, and sharp knives. The gang surrounded the facility, smashed through the main doors, and forced their way inside the station premises.
During the ensuing altercation, police officers resisted the mob’s attempt to free the detainees. In the violent struggle, Town Sub-Inspector (TSI) Nurul Islam and Constable Ashik sustained serious injuries from blows delivered with sharp weapons. Video footage circulated across social media platforms captured the armed crowd besieging the outpost, vandalising office furniture, and damaging surrounding structures, causing widespread panic in the immediate vicinity.
Confirming the details of the attack, Dhaka Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Joynal Abedin stated that the injured officers were rushed to hospital for medical treatment. He confirmed that law enforcement agencies are in the process of filing two separate cases—one concerning the assault on police officers and obstruction of official duties, and another under the Narcotics Control Act. Authorities are currently reviewing video evidence to identify the perpetrators and conduct drives to apprehend everyone involved in the incident.
